Second Chance-Restorative Justice Initiative

Young Adults Program Mission

MJE’s youth and education efforts challenge unequal relationships and social patterns that are underlying the causes of violence. We empower youth to be leaders, recover from trauma, and gain entry into the workforce. Youth are supported through relationship building, civic engagement, and leadership training grounded in experimental learning.

MJE’s operating model hinges on two key mechanisms: Education and Engagement. Education provides the leadership tools MJE clients need to recover from trauma and gain sustainable employment. Engage in opportunities to put what they have learned into practice by pursuing personal and career goals.

Second Chance Program

MJE Supports 200 young adults ages 16-24 who are incarcerated.Following intake, evaluation and assessment, young adults are connected with Case Management services as well as mentoring. The goal is to plan for their future when they are released from prison. This includes MJE’s You Matter Personal Leadership Training as well as advocacy for public assistance, programs, and related services in the community.
