2 Temwayaj Anplwaye

“Mwen te kòmanse kòm yon kliyan isit la nan MJE. Mwen te pèdi pitit gason m nan vyolans nan lavèy nouvèl ane 2008 la, epi nan lane 2011 mwen te vin nan MJE pou jwenn yon espas gerizon epi pou m te bò kote moun ki te konprann chòk mwen an. Mwen pa t ap resevwa swen oswa resous apre lanmò pitit gason m nan jiskaske mwen te antre nan MJE apre mwen te pèdi travay mwen paske mwen pa t ase sosyal. Mwen te deside rantre nan òganizasyon san bi likratif la epi kòmanse vwayaj gerizon mwen an lè m ede manman ak fanmi yo ak resous ak atelye gerizon pou ede yo simonte yon moman twomatik.”

We are a lean, high-impact team operating across two Boston-area locations. Our work is visible, community-facing, and deeply personal to the people who do it.

    About The Role

We are looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager who can tell our story well and produce the work that tells it.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable interviewing a mother about the hardest year of her life, designing the flyer that fills the room, and pulling the analytics that show what worked. Reporting to the Director of Digital Strategy & Communications, you will manage the day-to-day marketing and communications program — content, social media, email, website, graphic design, podcast production, and the marketing behind our signature events and sponsorships.

This is a highly hands-on role that combines strategy and execution and requires a willingness to personally develop and deliver communications materials. If you want to build, ship, and see your work move a room of people, keep reading.

    What You’ll Do

    • Tell our story
      • Write and produce newsletters, press releases, annual and impact reports, website content, blog posts, and campaign messaging.
      • Interview participants, families, staff, volunteers, and partners to develop authentic, consent-based stories.
      • Maintain a living library of stories, photography, video, and approved messaging
    • Design the materials
      • Design flyers, invitations, event programs, one-pagers, sponsorship packets, signage, presentation decks, and social graphics.
      • Build reusable branded templates so program staff can produce consistent materials on their own.
      • Manage layout and production of the annual report, coordinating with outside designers and print vendors as needed.
    • Run the digital program
      • Own social media end to end: planning, creation, scheduling, community management, and audience growth.
      • Manage email marketing, including segmentation, design, deployment, and performance analysis.
      • Maintain content for the MJE and MAV Learning Community websites.
      • Track analytics across web, email, social, and podcast — and report on what they mean.
    • Produce the podcast
      • Own MJE’s Living Room Conversations podcast: editorial roadmap, guest identification and booking, production coordination, publishing, promotion, and listener analytics.
      • Extend episodes into clips, quote graphics, transcripts, and campaign assets.
    • Market our events and support sponsorship
      • Serve as the marketing and communications lead for MJE’s signature events, including Mothers of Courage & Conviction, the Black History Month Celebration, the MJE Holiday Celebration, the MAV National Learning Community Summit, and fundraising and community healing events.
      • Support sponsorship development: prospect research, sponsorship packets and benefit tiers, solicitation materials, and pipeline tracking.
      • Coordinate sponsor benefit fulfillment — recognition, signage, digital placement, on-site visibility — and prepare post-event impact recaps.
      • Lead event branding, media coordination, photography and videography, and post-event storytelling.
    • Work with the team
      • Partner with the Community Outreach Team, program staff, and leadership to align messaging with what is actually happening on the ground.
      • Coordinate consultants, contract designers, photographers, videographers, interns, and volunteers.
      • Maintain the annual communications calendar and organizational brand standards.

    What You Bring

    • At least five years of progressively responsible marketing and communications experience.
    • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant professional experience. We take equivalent experience seriously.
    • Strong writing and editing ability. Writing samples required.
    • Demonstrated graphic design ability in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite. Design portfolio required.
    • Working proficiency with website content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media management and analytics tools.
    • The ability to run several projects at once, independently, and land them on time.
    • Availability to work regular evenings and weekends around our event and program calendar.
    • Ability to travel locally throughout Greater Boston and between MJE’s two locations. Reliable means of local transportation required; a personal vehicle is not required.

    Nice To Have

    • Nonprofit, community-based, advocacy, or public-sector communications experience.
    • Experience supporting event sponsorships, corporate partnerships, or donor communications.
    • Podcast, audio, or video production and editing experience.
    • Experience communicating with and about communities affected by violence, trauma, or systemic inequity.
    • Familiarity with Boston’s neighborhoods, community organizations, media outlets, and institutional partners.
    • Bilingual or multilingual ability.

    Who Thrives Here

    • The people who do well at MJE tend to share a few things:
      • A real commitment to social justice, racial and economic equity, and community-led change — not just comfort with the language of it.
      • A positive, solutions-oriented way of working, especially when resources are tight and the timeline is short.
      • Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive stories and information. People trust us with hard things.
      • Cultural humility and the ability to build genuine relationships across difference.
      • Initiative and follow-through in a fast-moving, resource-conscious environment.

    Schedule & Location

This is a full-time, in-person position based in Boston. Our standard office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the balance of the week’s hours worked around events, community meetings, and production. Regular evening and weekend work is part of this role, and specific schedules are set with your supervisor in advance.

Regular attendance at MJE offices and participation in community meetings, trainings, outreach activities, and organizational events are essential functions of this position. MJE does not offer remote or hybrid arrangements for this role, except where required as a reasonable accommodation or by law.

    Konpansasyon ak Benefis

The pay range for this position is $32.69 – $37.50 per hour, equivalent to $68,000 – $78,000 annually at 40 hours per week. This is the range MJE reasonably and in good faith expects to pay at the time of posting, and actual placement within it is based on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity.

This is a non-exempt, overtime-eligible position. Because the role includes regular evening and weekend event work, hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek are paid at one and one-half times the regular rate. Overtime must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor, except in emergency situations.

MJE offers health and dental insurance, a retirement plan with an employer match, paid time off, and paid holidays.
